Biography

Weston Hurt, a graduate of the prestigious Julliard Opera Center, has already performed with several opera companies and orchestras in the United States, and this season makes his debuts with the New York City Opera as Frank in Korngold's Die Tote Stadt, the Opera Orchestra of New York as Baldassare in L'Arlesiana, and with the American Symphony Orchestra in a performances of Der ferne Klang in Avery Fisher Hall. His many roles include Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Peter in Hansel und Gretel, Riccardo in I Puritani, the title role in Eugene Onegin, and the Count in Le Nozze di Figaro.

Additionally, Mr. Hurt is a gifted recitalist and concert singer. He has performed in recitals sponsored by the prestigious Marilyn Horne Foundation in the United States, and has also performed in concert internationally, including a South American tour of performances of Brahm's Ein Deutsches Requiem in the summer of 2006. His large repertoire also includes such works as Handel's Messiah, Fauré's Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, Bach's Mass in B Minor and Magnificat, Mozart's Mass In C Minor and Coronation Mass, Britten's War Requiem, and the Haydn Paukenmesse which he sang at Carnegie Hall.

Mr. Hurt's artistry has been recognized by many notable and prestigious vocal competitions: He received 1st place and the People's Choice Award from the Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition and George London Foundation Vienna Prize, both in the 2004-2005 season. Additional competition winnings include winning 1st Place in the 2003 Oratorio Society of New York Competition, as well as awards from the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation International Competition, Liederkranz Foundation, Metropolitan Opera National Council, Opera Index, Inc., Palm Beach Opera Competition, and two career grants conferred by The Santa Fe Opera. He was also a finalist for the Sara Tucker Career Grant.
